Several leading athletes from Paralympic sport will be discussing ethics and integrity in Paralympic sport on Tuesday, 14 December, the fifth day of VISTA 2021 which this year is being held virtually.

Great Britain’s two-time Paralympic 100m gold medallist Jonnie Peacock, Canada’s seven-time Paralympic swimming champion Stephanie Dixon, Indian Paralympian Ekta Bhyan and Ghanaian Paralympian Raphael Botsyo will put their voices front and centre, debating up-to-date papers in scientific literature, and answering the critical question: “What does Paralympic Ethics & Integrity mean to me?”

The session which will cover safety, global balance, and fairness, in Para Sport Science will be moderated by Yetsa A. Tuakli-Wosornu MD, MPH, Assistant Professor (Adjunct) at Yale School of Public Health, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation physician specialising in sports and spine care.

It is hoped athletes’ first-person perspectives can accomplish three important goals: offer a summary of the data from athletes’ vantage point, introduce their creative ideas for solutions, and give us a sense of how scientific work can improve to more directly influence athletes’ lives.

The 10th VISTA 2021 Conference is being organised virtually over six days in partnership with six leading Universities between 18 November and 16 December 2021.

Designed to provide a platform for sport scientists and researchers to hear from and have dialogue with experts in the field of sport for athletes with impairments, VISTA 2021 is led by KU Leuven, Belgium; University of Stellenbosch, South Africa; The Swedish School of Sport and Health Sciences, Stockholm, Sweden; School of Kinesiology; Western University, Canada; University of Pittsburgh, USA; and Yonsei University, South Korea.

VISTA 2021 has so far addressed four themes: Evidence-based Classification (18 November); Health and Medicine (22 November); Technology in Paralympic Sport (29 November) and Socio-Cultural Legacy (1 December). In addition to Tuesday’s session on Ethics and Integrity, Thursday’s (16 December) final session will focus on Paralympic Performance.

VISTA provides a forum for exchanging the latest information, research and expertise related to the Paralympic Movement and promotes cross-disciplinary interaction between sport scientists, athletes, coaches, administrators and the media.

Details on how to register for Tuesday’s session, which will take place between 13:00-16:30 CET, can be found at www.vista2021.com
