Volkswagen Becomes Sochi 2014 Games Partner

The Sochi 2014 Organizing Committee has signed an agreement with the Russian branch of major car manufacturer Volkswagen Group, giving it Tier One Partner status for the Sochi 2014 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The Volkswagen Group Rus will supply around 3,000 vehicles to the Sochi Organizing Committee for use during the preparations for the Games as part of its agreement. The majority of the vehicles are to be produced in the Volkswagen factory in Kaluga, Russia, including the Group’s Volkswagen, Audi and Skoda brands.

President of the Sochi 2014 Organizing Committee Dmitry Chernyshenko, and General Director of Volkswagen Group Rus Dietmar Korzekwa signed the agreement during the Sochi Economic Forum which took place last week in the Black Sea coastal city.

Mr. Chernyshenko said that this was a major agreement for Sochi 2014 in an important category and that Volkswagen is one of the world’s best-known companies, with a strong presence in Russia. He looked forward to working closely with Volkswagen Group Rus and was already impressed by their commitment to excellence and innovation, which are just two of the principles shared with Sochi 2014.

Once the contractual process is complete, Volkswagen Group Rus will be granted the official status of General Partner of the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games in Sochi, General Partner of the Russian Olympic and Paralympic Committee (until the end of 2016) and also General Partner of the Russian Olympic and Paralympic teams (at the Games in 2010, 2012, 2014 and 2016).

The status of General Partner gives the Company the rights to use the symbols of the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games as well as symbols of the National Olympic and Paralympic Committees in Russia.

Sochi 2014 General Partners already signed up are Megafon, Rostelecom, Rosneft, Sberbank and Aeroflot. Worldwide Olympic Partners signed up to this date in support of Sochi 2014 are Coca-Cola, Panasonic, Samsung and Atos Origin.
