Voting open for Americas ‘Athlete of the Month’

Argentina’s Gustavo Fernandez, Canada’s Mac Marcoux and USA’s Andrew Kurka are the three shortlisted Para athletes for the Americas ‘Athlete of the Month’ poll for January 2017.

The public are invited to vote for their winner via www.americasparalympic.org homepage and have time to do so until Friday (10 February).

The nominations are:

Gustavo Fernandez, Argentina, wheelchair tennis

The men´s singles world No.4 won the Australian Open, the second wheelchair tennis Grand Slam title of his career. He also finished as runner-up in the doubles in pairs with Great Britain´s Alfie Hewett. Fernandez also took both the singles and doubles titles at the Melbourne Open, the week before to the Australian Open.

Andrew Kurka, USA, alpine skiing

USA’s alpine skier won his first gold medal ever at a World Championships in the men’s downhill sitting in Tarvisio. He also added a silver in the giant slalom and a bronze in the super-G to his haul.

Mac Marcoux, Canada, alpine skiing

Guided by Jack Leitch, Marcoux put in his best ever World Championships performance in Italy, leaving Tarvisio with four golds and one silver medal in the men’s visually impaired – a podium sweep.

The nominations are compiled from submissions by National Paralympic Committees (NPCs) from the Americas.
