The men’s groups for the wheelchair basketball European Championships 2017 have been announced, with all 2015 medal winners placed in the same group.

Defending champion and Rio 2016 bronze medallist Great Britain will have to get past Turkey and Germany, the respective European 2015 silver and bronze medallists, to advance to the medal games.

Joining them in Group A are Israel, Sweden and recently promoted Lithuania.

Group B will be led by host nation and Rio 2016 runner-up Spain. The Netherlands, Italy, Poland, Switzerland and France were also drawn.

Great Britain defeated Turkey in the finals of the 2015 edition to win their third straight European Championship title, while Germany defeated the Netherlands for the bronze.

The qualified teams were assigned into the groups based on current rankings.

The draw took place in Tenerife, Spain, where the Championships will be held from 19 June – 1 July. The women’s European Championships will also be held at the same time.

The final schedule will be announced shortly.
