"The International Paralympic Committee (IPC), as one of WADA’s stakeholders, is proud to have contributed to the development of the Code."

More than 1,500 representatives of public authorities, the Sport Movement, the anti-doping community, athletes, observers and the media gathered in Madrid, Spain, from 15 to 17 November, at the Conference organized by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) and the Spanish High Council for Sport. The World Conference was informed about the major advances that have been made in the fight against doping since WADA's inception in late 1999 and what strategies will be needed in the future.

The World Conference endorsed the revised World Anti-Doping Code (Code) in a move to advance anti-doping harmonization and programs worldwide. In a meeting held after the World Conference's adoption of the Madrid Resolution, the Foundation Board of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) unanimously approved the amendments to enhance the Code.

"The International Paralympic Committee (IPC), as one of WADA’s stakeholders, is proud to have contributed to the development of the Code. With this revised Code, IPC can now start to amend its own Code to make sure that we comply with WADA’s regulations by January 2009”, said Sir Philip Craven, IPC President and WADA Foundation Board Member.

In addition, John Fahey, former Finance Minister of Australia, was selected by the WADA Foundation Board to serve as its next President. Prof. Arne Ljungqvist, International Olympic Committee (IOC) Member and Chairperson of WADA's Health, Medical and Research Committee, was chosen as Vice President. They will both serve a three-year term each to begin on 1 January 2008.
