Youth Parapans welcome 17 countries to Buenos Aires

The third edition of the Youth Parapan American Games are being held in Buenos Aires, Argentina, the first time ever the country will play host to such an event.

With the introduction of the participating delegations, Argentina’s Head of Cabinet Juan Manuel Abal Medina, and member of the Social Development Minister's Office, Alicia Kirchner, led the Opening Ceremony of the third edition of the 2013 Youth Parapan American Games on Tuesday (15 October) in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

"These Games are a great opportunity for our young athletes with disabilities and to show the world the great values offered by the sport,” said Americas Paralympic Committee President Octavio Londono Giraldo.

This international event, taking place for the first time Argentina, is being jointly organised by the International Paralympic Committee (IPC), Ministry of Social Development of Argentina, Argentinian Paralympic Committee (COPAR), the National High Performance Ente (ENARD) .

This third edition of the Games has drawn the participation of more than 600 young athletes ages 14-21 from 17 countries in the Americas: Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Trinidad and Tobago, the USA and Venezuela.

“These figures testify to the flourishing reality of Paralympic sport on our continent and in its growth every day,” Giraldo said.
