Candidate Cities

The candidature process for the rights to stage the 2024 Olympic Games and Paralympic Games is underway. This is the first candidature process to benefit from the IOC's Olympic Agenda 2020

After an initial invitation phase, where interested cities had the opportunity to learn more on how to stage the Games, cities that have decided to bid for the Games entered the official Candidature Process.

This spans a period from 15 September 2015 to September 2017 (exact date TBC) when the IOC Session will elect the host city for the 2024 Games.

The Candidature Process is a three-stage process including the following stages:

Stage 1: Vision, Games Concept and Strategy

Dates: 15 September 2015 – June 2016 (Executive Board date to be confirmed)

Candidature file submission*: Candidature File Part 1 - 17 February 2016

Stage 2: Governance, Legal and Venue Funding

Dates: June – December 2016 (Executive Board date to be confirmed)

Candidature file submission*: Candidature File Part 2 - 7 October 2016

Stage 3: Games Delivery, Experience and Venue Legacy

Dates: December 2016 – September 2017 Election by IOC Session

Candidature file submission*: Candidature File Part 3 - 3 February 2017

Budapast, Los Angeles, Paris and Rome have entered the Candidature Process to win the right to stage the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
