The International Paralympic Committee (IPC) has banned Spanish Para athletics athlete Yassine Ouhdadi El Ataby for a period of three years for committing an anti-doping rule violation (ADRV), in breach of the IPC Anti-Doping Code.

The athlete returned an adverse analytical finding (AAF) for a prohibited substance in a urine sample provided out-of-competition on 28 July 2024.

The substance was a metabolite of Clostebol. The substance is included on the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) 2024 Prohibited List under the class S1.1 (Anabolic Androgenic Steroids).

Upon being notified of the positive finding by the WADA-accredited laboratory, the athlete was provisionally suspended by the IPC on 27 February 2025, pending a resolution of his case.

The athlete subsequently accepted the commission of the ADRV, and the consequences proposed by the IPC.

There has been a substantial delay in this case which is not attributable to the athlete or the IPC, but the result of an administrative error by a third-party. In accordance with Article 10.13.1 of Part Three of the IPC Anti-Doping Code (the IPC IF Rules), the commencement of the period of ineligibility has been backdated to start on the day after the Closing Ceremony of the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, in which the athlete competed - i.e.  9 September 2024.

As a result of his violation, the athlete will be ineligible for competition and other sporting activities (other than authorised anti-doping education or rehabilitation programmes) for three years, from 9 September 2024 until 8 September 2027.

All results obtained by the athlete from the date the sample was collected on 28 July 2024 until the commencement of the provisional suspension are also disqualified, with all resulting consequences, including forfeiture of any medals, points and prizes. This includes the men’s 5,000m T13 gold medal he won at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games.

As a result of his disqualification from the men’s 5,000m T13 competition at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, neutral Paralympic athletes Aleksandr Kostin and Anton Kuliatin will now be awarded the gold and silver medals, respectively. Bronze will now go to Ecuador’s Sixto Roman Moreta Criollo.

Each athlete is strictly liable for the substances found in their sample. An ADRV occurs whenever a prohibited substance (or its metabolites or markers) is found in their sample, whether or not the athlete intentionally or unintentionally used a prohibited substance or was negligent or otherwise at fault.

As a signatory of the World Anti-Doping Code (the WADC), the IPC remains committed to a doping-free sporting environment at all levels. The IPC has established the IPC Anti-Doping Code in compliance with the general principles of the WADC, including the WADC International Standards, expecting that, in the spirit of sport, it will lead the fight against doping in sport for athletes with an impairment.
