He first tried skiing at age six through Vermont Adaptive Ski and Sports in Killington, VT, United States of America. He began racing at age 12.

His mother and his grandmother encouraged him to take up the sport.

Injuries
He suffered nine separate shoulder dislocations between 2016 and 2017. He required an operation on his left shoulder in June 2018. (Instagram profile, 01 Jun 2018; IPC, 05 Feb 2018)

He tore the supraspinatus muscle [rotator cuff] in his left shoulder at the 2013 World Cup event in Thredbo, NSW, Australia. He underwent surgery, and despite being named in the US team for the 2014 Paralympic Winter Games in Sochi, medical staff did not clear him to compete.
