"I had bought ski equipment and I thought I could train with it. It did not work well, then I tried a toboggan. But then there was a lady from the ski federation who saw me rushing around here and there with my equipment and she asked me if I would join a recruitment meeting. It all started from there."

FROM SITTING TO STANDING
He started his international career competing in sitting events in Para cross-country skiing and biathlon, winning gold in the cross-country sprint event at the World championships in 2011, and competing in both sports at the Paralympic Winter Games in 2010, 2014 and 2018. For the 2018/19 season, he chose to begin competing in standing events and was reclassified from LW12 to LW2. "I managed to become world champion sitting, now I have to try it standing. It is something completely new, but think of something as fantastic as being able to skate, what freedom." In December 2021 he acquired a new prosthesis developed for US soldiers wounded in combat.
