FROM VIETNAM TO CANADA
In April 1975 she was taken from an orphanage in Saigon as part of an operation to evacuate South Vietnamese children before the capital was taken by North Vietnamese forces. She travelled to Canada on a flight with 56 babies and children, and was adopted by a couple in Brantford, Ontario, who had already adopted two other children from Vietnam and Bangladesh. LITERARY INSPIRATION
In 2011 Canadian author Marsha Skrypuch released a book based on Yurczyszyn's journey from Vietnam to Canada titled 'Last Airlift: A Vietnamese Orphan's Rescue from War'. Skrypuch published another book in 2012 named 'One Step At A Time: A Vietnamese Child Finds Her Way', which told the story of Yurczyszyn's life growing up in Canada.
