Wheelchair Basketball - Men's - COL versus POL - London 2012 Paralympic Games

COL 45 vs 63 POL

LONDON, 30 August
Despite Nelson SANZ LONDONO (COL) scoring 21 points in his team's opening Group B men's wheelchair basketball match against Poland, Colombia were unable to sustain the momentum and lost 63-45.
With playmaker Rodney HAWKINS (COL) not imposing himself on the game, SANZ LONDONO (COL) took up the mantle with 19 first-half points from the centre. But the strength and depth of the Poland team proved effective and they never looked back after wrestling the lead back from Colombia in the second quarter.
Some smart guard work from Andrzej MACEK (POL) and player/coach Piotr LUSZYNSKI (POL) helped the Polish establish the lead, with captain Marcin BALCEROWSKI (POL) scoring 18 points overall, including eight in the final quarter to seal the match.
Mateusz FILIPSKI (POL) also scored 18 points before fouling out of the game but Poland had already transformed a one-point lead into an unassailable 18-point victory by that stage.
Poland, hotly tipped to advance from their group, will face Germany on Friday, while Colombia play Japan.
