Wheelchair Basketball - USA versus TUR - London 2012 Paralympic Games

50 USA vs TUR 59

LONDON, 30 August
Cem GEZINCI (TUR) scored 15 points to lead Turkey to an historic 59-50 triumph over the USA in a group A men's wheelchair basketball game.
It was Turkey's first ever victory over the United States, and fittingly came on the day Turks celebrate Victory Day, which commemorates the final battle in the country's war of indepence in 1922.
With GEZINCI dominating under the basket, the Turks opened the game by taking a four-point lead and the USA were forced to play catch-up. Loose play from USA then allowed the Turks to extend their lead to 31-25 by half-time.
The USA rallied in the third quarter to take a 45-42 advantage into the final period, but GEZINCI and teammate Ferit GUMUS, who finished the game with eight points, helped put Turkey back in front.
Joseph CHAMBERS (USA) led his side in scoring with 17 points.
