The General Assembly is the supreme authority of the IPC which meets every two years. It last met in November 2015 in Mexico City, Mexico, whilst the last IPC Governing Board elections took place in 2013 when the event was staged in Athens, Greece.

2017 IPC General Assembly and Conference

The 2017 IPC General Assembly and Conference will take place from 5 – 8 September in Abu Dhabi, the capital city of the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The IPC Conference will take place on 5-6 September, and the General Assembly will be held from 7-8 September.

2017 IPC General Assembly will have extra significance as elections for the IPC Governing Board and IPC President and Vice President will take place on Friday, 8 September. The newly elected President will be the third since the IPC was formed in 1989. The current IPC President Sir Philip Craven, who has held office since 2001, will step down after serving the maximum number of terms in the role.

How to register

Registration is essential and compulsory as only individuals that have been appointed by an IPC Member and have completed all the registration procedures will be eligible to receive an accreditation in accordance with the IPC Accreditation Policy.

All organisations must complete their registration online and on behalf of all individuals in their delegation (including official delegates, guides, interpreters, observers and accompanying guests). To receive login information and access the registration portal, the IPC Members must submit a duly completed mandate form for their delegation to the IPC Membership Engagement department by 7 July 2017.

The deadline for delegates’ registration is also 7 July 2017.

Awards

In addition to the IPC General Assembly and Conference, the Paralympic Sport and Media Awards, in partnership with Allianz, will take place in Abu Dhabi on Thursday, 7 September. The 2017 awards will recognise and honour the performances of athletes, teams, officials and the media from the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games. The BP Courage Award will also be presented and a number of individuals will be recognised with the prestigious Paralympic Order.

Solidarity information

The Local Organising Committee (LOC) will offer a Solidarity Programme for selected NPCs to attend the 2017 IPC General Assembly and Conference.

To receive solidarity, NPCs must have been an IPC member in good standing by 31 March 2017 and fulfil all the conditions described in the “Solidarity Programme Information” section on the IPC General Assembly registration portal. Applications for solidarity should be submitted in a formal letter and include the rationale for the request. All solidarity letters must be submitted before 1 July 2017 via ga2017@paralympic.org.
