Why this sport?
He loved team sports but had to give them up as his vision deteriorated. He was wrestling and playing American football in high school when he was persuaded to return to the track. He learned about blind sports and the Paralympic Games while at Western Oregon University.

Awards and honours
In 2005, he won the Foundation Fighting Blindness [FFB] Hope and Spirit Award along with Darren Abrahamson. Abrahamson, from Salem, Oregon, was aged 10 at the time and was also losing his sight. The pair befriended each other and shared their experiences. (blindness.org, 01 Sep 2005)
