The Algerian Paralympic Committee has been awarded the rights to host the 2015 IBSA Goalball African Championships.

The competition will take place in Algiers, the capital city of Algeria, between 20-30 November 2015.

Both female and male national teams from Africa will be invited to participate in the competition that will also act as the African regional qualifying tournament for the 2016 Rio Paralympic Games.

The top placed male and female nation from this event will be guaranteed qualification to attend the Games in Rio.

In 2011, at the last African-Oceanic Championships as it was formerly known, Algeria’s men qualified in the most dramatic of fashion by coming from four goals down to snatch a 5-4 extra-time win against Australia.

They were the top placed African side in the men’s competition at the London 2012 Paralympic Games, beating the likes of Belgium and Canada before losing out in the quarter finals.

They then went on to compete at the 2014 IBSA Goalball World Championships in Espoo, Finland, finishing sixth in their pool.
