Australia roll to victory, get revenge on Canada

In the bronze-medal game, host nation Japan defeated South Korea, 72-68.

Australia’s men’s wheelchair basketball team won the Kitakyushu Champions Cup in Japan on Sunday (17 November), defeating a Canadian team in the final that had previously beaten them for gold at the London 2012 Paralympic Games.

Led by their defensive effort, Australia rolled to a 68-47 victory over Canada to finish the tournament on top.

Justin Eveson led Australia with 16 points, eight rebounds and seven assists in just 23 minutes on the court, and he was supported by Shaun Norris and Brad Ness, who bucketed 14 points each. Bill Latham finished with eight points and 10 rebounds for the winning team.

Patrick Anderson anchored the Canadian effort with a team-high 20 points, while Nik Goncin contributed 13 points.

In the bronze-medal game, host nation Japan defeated South Korea, 72-68.

Australia, Japan and South Korea are now headed to Bangkok, Thailand, to compete in the 2013 IWBF Wheelchair Basketball Asia-Oceania Championships.
