Beijing 2022 Launches Official Slogan: “Together for a Shared Future”

On September 17, the Beijing Organising Committee for the 2022 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games (Beijing 2022) held a ceremony at the Capital Museum, Beijing, to officially launch the Beijing 2022 Games slogan, "Together for a Shared Future".

The slogan was selected after an extensive process from May to September 2020, during which Beijing 2022 collected 79 sets of slogans from renowned Chinese universities. Of these, 11 slogans were shortlisted by experts from various fields, which the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and International Paralympic Committee (IPC) provided opinions on. The final selection, “Together for a Shared Future” which is in line with the characteristics and functions of the motto, which is concise, easy to read, easy to remember, and calls for coming together, demonstrates the Olympic spirit and philosophy of Beijing 2022.  

The slogan reflects China’s commitment to overcome global challenges as a community with a shared future for mankind. The slogan demonstrates unity and a collective effort, embodying the core values and vision of the Olympic Movement and the goal of pursuing world unity, peace and progress, as well as the vision of the Paralympic Games, especially making for an inclusive world. The words also echo the common demands of the mankind that the world needs to work together towards a better tomorrow, especially under the special situation of the COVID-19 pandemic prevention.

Chen Ning, Director General of the Culture and Ceremonies Department of Beijing 2022, said that “Together for a Shared Future" reflects the Chinese influence on the Olympic spirit and the philosophy of Beijing as the first ever dual Olympic city.

On the basis of the Beijing 2008 Games slogan, "One World, One Dream", it not only embodies the concept of sharing, but also grasps the current pulse of the global pandemic and reflects the common aspirations of all countries in the world to join together for a better future.

Jiang Xiaoyu, Vice-President of the Beijing Olympic City Development Promotion Association, and Executive Vice-President of the Beijing Organising Committee of the 2008 Olympic and Paralympic Summer Games, said, "This is a powerful slogan that expresses confidence and determination." He believes the slogan plays a unique leading role by uniting and forming a community that can overcome global challenges together.

Shen Xue, Executive Vice-President of the Chinese Skating Association and gold medallist at the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics, said the slogan demonstrates the fighting spirit of the organisers, staff and volunteers to build the stage for the Winter Games during a pandemic. 

Liu Zhenghui, a 17-year-old Para snowboarder from Beijing, believes that with the help of the Beijing 2022 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, persons with and without disabilities from all over the world will come to know each other, understand each other, and respect each other. He also expressed his understanding of the slogan, saying, "Inspired by the Olympic and Paralympic spirit, we will work together as a community with a shared future for mankind."

According to Chen Ning, the slogan is the first milestone after the Tokyo 2020 Games, demonstrating that it is now “Beijing Time” and an important moment to unite together under the Olympic and Paralympic banners. 

Preparations for Beijing 2022 are on track, with all competition venues completed by the end of 2020 as scheduled, and during 2021, all non-competition venues will be delivered as scheduled. In February and April 2021, the "Experience Beijing" series of domestic test events were successfully held, and from October to December of this year, 10 international test competitions, two domestic test events, and three international training weeks will be held.
