Canada name medical officers for Toronto 2015 and Rio 2016

Dr. Richard Goudie and Dr. Andrew Marshall have been named Chief and Assistant Chief Medical Officers for Toronto 2015 and Rio 2016.

Both doctors bring extensive Games experience from Olympic, Paralympic, Commonwealth, World University and Canada Games.

The Canadian Paralympic Committee has announced that Dr. Richard Goudie and Dr. Andrew Marshall have been named Chief and Assistant Chief Medical Officers respectively for the Toronto 2015 Parapan American Games in Canada.

For the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games, their roles will reverse and Marshall will assume the Chief Medical Officer role with Goudie serving as his assistant.

Both doctors bring extensive Games experience from Olympic, Paralympic, Commonwealth, World University and Canada Games.

Goudie has been team physician for the Canadian women's wheelchair basketball team since 2010.

He also operated as Chief Medical Officer for Team Canada at the Beijing 2008 and London 2012 Paralympic Games and the 2011 Guadalajara Parapan American Games.

Previously, Goudie has operated as a member of the medical team at the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Games, the 2007 Rio de Janeiro Parapan American Games, the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games and the Winnipeg 1999 Pan Am Games.

"Being involved with para-sport has been a highlight of my career in sport medicine," said Goudie.

“I am honoured to have been trusted with the responsibility of leading the Canadian Health Care Team, an exemplary group of professionals who will provide the best care to Team Canada athletes at the Parapan American Games in Toronto."

Meanwhile, Marshall has been the lead physician for the Canadian para-triathlon team since 2013.

His experience in a Games format comes from being Assistant Chief Medical Officer for Team Canada at the Beijing 2008 and London 2012 Olympic Games, Chief Medical Officer at the 2011 Guadalajara Pan Am Games and a member of the medical team at the Delhi 2010 Commonwealth Games, and the Rio de Janeiro 2007 Pan Am Games.

The Toronto 2015 Parapan American Games run from 7-15 August 2015 and will feature 1,608 athletes from 28 countries competing in 15 sports.
