The Cuijk 2022 Para Dance Sport International Competition, Holland Dans Spektakel in the Netherlands has been cancelled.

The announcement from the Local Organising Committee (LOC) follows the sad news of the death of Hans Verhoeven, one of the founders of the competition, in January.

One of the most traditional Para dance sport events, the Cuijk International was launched in 1989 by Verhoeven and Corrie van Hugten.

This year’s competition was set to take place in April.

The LOC will now focus on the preparations for next year’s Holland Dans Spektakel with the aim of hosting the event in April 2023.

“Cuijk is a place the Para dance sport community can call home and we are still deeply sad by the loss of Hans Verhoeven. While we look forward to seeing the competition return to Cuijk, as there is no better way to pay tribute to his legacy, we completely understand and support the LOC’s decision to cancel the 2022 event,” Camila Rodrigues, World Para Dance Sport Manager said.

The last edition of the Cuijk International took place in 2019 with 85 athletes from 15 countries competing. Ukraine topped the medals table with 11 golds.

The 2022 Para dance sport competition season is set to begin at the Saint Petersburg World Cup from 6 to 8 May in Russia.
