The world’s four best men’s goalball teams – world champions Brazil, reigning Paralympic champions Finland, the USA and Lithuania – will contest the Rio 2016 Goalball Test Event which takes place between 4 and 5 May.

The Future Arena will host all the games and the top four finishers at the 2014 IBSA Goalball World Championships will play in a single round robin format, with the two best advancing to the final.

These four teams will then be joined by Sweden and Turkey for the Rio Open Tournament on 6 May, which will provide another useful preparation for September’s Games.

In addition, the draw for the Paralympic Games goalball events will be held on 4 May, in the presence of Jannie Hammershoi, President of IBSA.

At Rio 2016, Brazil, Finland, US, Algeria, Canada, China, Turkey, Lithuania, Sweden and Germany will take part in the men’s event, whilst the USA, Russia, Turkey, Algeria, Canada, Japan, Ukraine, Israel, China and Brazil will compete in the women’s event.
