IPC Medical Committee discusses Sochi 2014 plans

The committee met with illness and injury experts to discuss the further development of the IPC Injury Illness and Survival Study, as well as the analysis of surveillance publications that resulted from London 2012.

At the IPC Medical Committee’s annual meeting last week, committee members discussed how to change its handling of Therapeutic Use Exemptions (TUEs) in relation the standards of the World Anti-Doping Code as well as its Injury Surveillance System (ISS)

The committee met with illness and injury experts to discuss the further development of the IPC Injury Illness and Survival Study, as well as the analysis of surveillance publications that resulted from London 2012.

The main aim is to reduce injury rates through changes in rules and regulations, equipment or coaching techniques based on data provided from London 2012 reports.

The TUE process for the Sochi 2014 Paralympic Winter Games was also discussed and finalised, and it will be outlined in the Doping Control Guide for the Sochi Games that will be published next month.

Members also planned the committee’s activities for Sochi 2014 and how to improve the conditions for athletes across IPC sports. This includes everything from competition medical services and minimum participation age to athlete competition removal and boosting control.
