"This partnership with the Ministry of Sports is extremely important because it provides us with unprecedented conditions to develop the Brazilian Paralympic Movement and to work hard on our goal to finish in fifth place at the Rio 2016 Games."

The Brazilian Paralympic Committee and the nation’s federal government, through the Ministry of Sports, recently signed an agreement for 2013 worth 14,921,732.67 Euros.

These funds will be allocated to the following Paralympic sports in Brazil: athletics, wheelchair basketball, boccia, cycling, fencing, football 5-a-side, football 7-a-side, goalball, powerlifting, judo, swimming, wheelchair rugby, rowing, sailing, shooting and sitting volleyball.

Athletics and swimming will also be allowed to use part of their resources in 2014.

Andrew Parsons, IPC Governing Board member and NPC Brazil President, said: "This partnership with the Ministry of Sports is extremely important because it provides us with unprecedented conditions to develop the Brazilian Paralympic Movement and to work hard on our goal to finish in fifth place at the Rio 2016 Games."

At the London 2012 Games, the Brazilian delegation finished in seventh place, winning 43 medals, including 21 golds.

The goal of the agreement is to prepare Brazil for the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games. The agreement will enable the teams to conduct a higher number of training sessions, organise international exchanges, participate in national and international competitions, purchase sports equipment and hire professionals.

This is the largest agreement ever signed between NPC and the federal government. The 2012 agreement between the Ministry and the Brazilian Paralympic Committee was worth 3,354,321 Euros.
