Paralympic Torch Hits Second Stop

The celebration event was held at the Laval University campus in Ste-Foy and was an ideal opportunity for students to witness the excitement. The university has been recognized for its Faculty of Medicine and its university sport programme “Rouge et Or”, which is a high performance programme aimed to get students competing in various sports.

Quebec City is the capital of the Province of Quebec and the North American birthplace of the French civilization. It is also a UNESCO World Heritage city and a vibrant port city with a unique identity.

The Paralympic Flame, which has no ancestral home, was ignited and blessed on 3 March on Victoria Island Aboriginal firekeepers of the Pikwakanagan and Kitigan Zibi Algonquin bands during a special ceremony.

More than 600 torchbearers will proudly carry the flame during the Vancouver 2010 Paralympic Torch Relay, presented by Coca-Cola and RBC and supported by the Government of Canada and the Province of BC. The Paralympic Torch visits 11 communities over a ten day period, culminating in the lighting of the Paralympic Cauldron at BC Place in downtown Vancouver on 12 March 2010.
