PyeongChang 2018: Pope Francis sends greeting to Paralympic athletes

Pope Francis has sent his greeings to the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) and all the Para athletes competing at PyeongChang 2018, between 9 and 18 March.

He said the Paralympic Winter Games are a further sign of the way in which sport can help, describing Para athletes as “an example for everyone of courage, tenacity and perseverance” as nothing holds them back.

“Sport is a school of inclusion, of inspiration for our personal lives and of commitment to transform our societies. Sport can build bridges between countries in conflict, giving a valid contribution and perspectives for peace among people.”

Pope Francis added that he hopes this event may encourage days of peace and joy for everyone.
