Russia open new Paralympic training centre

The centre will include facilities for the following sports: ice sledge hockey, wheelchair curling, alpine skiing, nordic skiing, cycling and powerlifting.

With just eight months until they host the next Paralympic Winter Games, Russia opened a new Paralympic sport centre this month, which will become the main base for their team in Udmurtiya in the lead-up to Sochi 2014 in addition to summer sport events.

The centre will include facilities for the following sports: ice sledge hockey, wheelchair curling, alpine skiing, nordic skiing, cycling and powerlifting.

Several ice sledge hockey players from the team that won bronze at the 2013 IPC Ice Sledge Hockey World Championships will train regularly there over the next season to prepare for Sochi.

The President of the Republic of Udmurtiya, Aleksandr Volkov, members of the Republic of Udmurtiya Government, representatives from the Ministry of Sport and Tourism of the Russian Federation, Paralympic athletes, the Russian Paralympic Committee and sports federations all participated a ceremony to open the centre this month.
