Schedule, groups set for men’s U23 Worlds

Wheelchair Basketball Canada, in conjunction with the International Wheelchair Basketball Federation (IWBF), has announced the competition schedule and groups for the 2017 Men’s Under-23 World Wheelchair Basketball Championship (2017 U23WWBC).

A total of 42 games will be played over eight days. The competition will feature the top junior male wheelchair basketball athletes from 12 nations vying for the world championship title.

Preliminary round competition will run from 8-12 June, with the playoff round beginning on 14 June.

The bronze and gold medal games will both take place on 16 June.

All of the games will be webcast live on the official event website.

In Pool A the winners of the Asia Oceania Zone – Iran – and European Champions – Turkey – will compete with Brazil, Australia, Italy and hosts Canada for places in the knock-out stage.

Group B includes reigning U23 world champions Germany, who will face Great Britain, the USA, Japan, France and South Africa.

The 2017 U23WWBC will take place 8-16 June at the Mattamy Athletic Centre in Toronto, Canada. More than 400 athletes, coaches, officials, delegates, and volunteers will attend the event.
