Monday (10 August), the third day of competition at the Toronto 2015 Parapan American Games will see 64 medal events contested.

Medal events

Archery

Brazil and US athletes each won two gold medals in Monday's archery finals.

 

For Brazil Jane Karla Gogel beat Canada's Karen Van Nest 140-132 to gold in the compound women's open. The USA's Martha Chavez took the bronze. Luciano Rezenda then beat the USA's Eric Bennett 6-4 to top the podium in the recurve men's open. Timothy Palumbo claimed the bronze for the USA.

 

The all US final of the compound men's open was won by Andre Shelby 1440140 against Matt Stutzman. Bronze went to the USA's Ben Thompson. Natalie Wells topped the podium in the recurve women's open 6-2 against Brazil's Thais Silva Carvalho. Kinga Kiss-Johnson won bronze for the USA their eighth medal out of the 12 available.

 

Athletics

Cuba's Omara Duran made history by running the 100m in 11.65 seconds, the quickest ever by a female athlete. Read the full story here.

Cycling track

Hosts Canada claimed gold in the mixed individual pursuit B at a sold-out CISCO Miltion Veldorome thanks to Daniel Chalifour and pilot Alexandre Cloutier.

 

Powerlifting

Mexico's two-time Paralympic champion Amalia Perez broke her own world record, which she set in April, to to win to win the women's up to 55kg, 61kg and 67kg class. The 42-year-old lifted 133.0kg/130.15 points to add 0.5kg to her previous best.

The women's up to 73kg, 79kg, 86kg and +86kg also saw another Mexican win. Perla Barcenas (125kg/109.36 points) enjoyed a successful return from an injured shoulder to break a Games record and top the podium. Brazil’s Evanio Rodrigues Da Silva dramatically took gold in the men's up to 80kg with a Parapan American record 190kg lift in the last round, after two failed attempts.

Swimming

Brazil won six out of 19 medals on a busy day in the pool. Multi-world and Paralympic champion Daniel Dias claimed his third gold of the Games. The report from the evening session can be found here.

Table tennis

Brazilian players won a staggering 24 medals on Monday claiming 10 golds from 15 events in table tennis. They also won eight silver and six bronze medals to cap a memorable day.

 

Non-medal evets

Football 5

Mexico overcame Chile 2-1 and Brazil, who have yet to concede goal, beat Uruguay 3-0.

 

Football 7

In the first fixture of the day Brazil hammered Argentina 7-0. USA drew 1-1 with Venezuela.

 

Goalball

World champions Brazil thumped USA 9-2 in the day's opening game in the men's competition. Elswhere, Argentina beat Puerto Rico 10-0. Canada defeated Venezuela 11-1.

 

Guatemala's women secured their first win as they beat El Salvador 9-2. In a close match, Brazil beat world champions USA 3-1 and in the final fixture of the day hosts Canada beat Nicaragua 10-0.

 

Sitting volleyball

Brazil's men made it three wins from three with a 3-0 over Costa Rica in the day's opener. Colombia also secured their second win with a 3-0 straight forward win over Mexico. USA's women maintained winning ways with a 3-0 win over Cuba, a scoreline that Brazil also beat Canada by.

 

Wheelchair basketball

After losing their opening two games, 2011 silver medallists Colombia won their first game in the men's competition with a 88-44 win over Puerto Rico. Argentina defeated Venezuela 75-23. Mexico pushed Canada close but eventually lost 74-55.

 

Peru's women beat El Salvador 54-25 and USA thrashed Argentina 91-14.

Wheelchair rugby

Canada continue to look like the team to beat and on Monday beat Argentina 73-26. USA eased past Chile 54-11.
