The International Paralympic Committee (IPC) has revealed the shortlist for the Allianz Athlete of the Month for March, and the public can now vote for the winner on www.paralympic.org.

The nominations are:

Maria Paula Barrera, Colombia, swimming

Barrera won six golds, one silver and one bronze to finish as her country´s most decorated athlete at the 2017 Youth Parapan American Games in Sao Pao, Brazil.

Joseph Berenyi, USA, cycling

Berenyi won four medals at 2017 UCI Para Cycling Track World Championships: three golds (1km time trial and team sprint in the C3; scratch race C1-3) and one silver (3km individual pursuit C3).

Benjamin Daviet, France, Nordic skiing

After winning his first biathlon world title this year, Daviet went unbeaten at the final two World Cups of the season in PyeongChang, South Korea, and then Sapporo, Japan. His incredible run of form saw him claim the overall men’s biathlon title as well as the men’s standing trophy.

Henrieta Farkasova, Slovakia, alpine skiing

Farkasova won seven of her eight races at two World Cups in March to claim the women’s slalom, giant slalom and super-G visually impaired World Cup titles with guide Natalia Subrtova. With her performances in Hakuba, Japan, and at the Test Event for the PyeongChang 2018 Paralympic Winter Games, the Slovakian also secured the overall women’s visually impaired title for 2016-17 in her comeback season.

Rune Lorentsen, Norway, wheelchair curling

The three-time Paralympian led his team to gold at the World Wheelchair Curling Championship 2017 having only returned to the A-Pool last year.

Mike Minor, USA, snowboard

Minor was crowned the men’s SB-UL overall World Cup winner for the second straight season, also winning snowboard-cross and banked slalom World Cup titles as the season concluded with the World Cup Finals and Paralympic Winter Games Test Event.

The public has until 12:00 (CEST) on Monday (10 April) to vote for the athlete they want to be the Allianz Athlete of the Month for March 2017 via the www.paralympic.org homepage.

The nominations are compiled from submissions by National Paralympic Committees (NPCs) and International Federations (IFs).

The 2017 Allianz Athlete of the Month winners so far are:

• January – Jeroen Kampschreur, Netherlands, alpine skiing

• February – Veronica Vadovicova, Slovakia, shooting
