"The new anti-doping rules were recognised in compliance with the WADA Code, and will be applied during the Incheon 2014 Asian Para Games"

The newly formulated anti-doping rules by the Asian Paralympic Committee (APC) have received approval from the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).

The new anti-doping rules were recognised in compliance with the WADA Code, and will be applied during the Incheon 2014 Asian Para Games between 18-24 October.

In a letter to Dr Tetsuo Suyama, Chairperson of the APC Medical and Sports Science Committee, WADA gave its approval on the rules, giving assurance that the APC anti-doping rules are in line with the World Anti-Doping Code.

“APC has successfully incorporated all mandatory articles of the World Anti- Doping Code into its rules,” said the letter, signed by WADA Senior Manager, Code Compliance Legal Affairs, Emiliano Simonelli.

APC Head of Anti-Doping, Dr Badrul Amini Abd Rashid, expressed satisfaction over the approval, saying that it was a milestone for the APC. It will be the first time that the body’s own anti-doping rules will be used in the Asian Para Games.

APC established the APC anti-doping rules for the Incheon Games in accordance with the WADA Code, expecting that it would contribute to the fight against doping during the Games as well as in the Paralympic Movement in Asia.

The rules stipulate that APC will work with WADA, the International Federations and the National Anti-Doping Organisations to ensure that there is co-ordination of the doping control during the Incheon Games.

The APC shall also report information about all completed tests, including results, to WADA.
