Walt Thompson has served as a member of the IPC Sports Science Committee for more than a decade and has been a member of the ACSM for more than 35 years.

Dr. Walt Thompson, a member of the International Paralympic Committee’s (IPC) Sport Science Committee, has been elected Vice President of the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM).

ACSM, the largest sports medicine and exercise organisation in the world, uses scientific research to provide educational and practical applications of exercise science and sports medicine.

ACSM has 45,000 members and certified professionals from 90 countries who represent 70 occupations within the sports medicine field.

Thompson has published more than 125 research-based articles and raised over US $20 million for his various initiatives. He works as the Associate Dean for Graduate Studies and as a professior of kinesiology and health at Georgia State University in the US.

Thompson has served as a member of the IPC Sports Science Committee for more than a decade and has been a member of the ACSM for more than 35 years.

The IPC Sports Science Committee, established in 2004, creates policies and guidelines to enhance scientific knowledge and promote sports science education and sports medicine development in Paralympic sport.
