VISTA2013 was the most successful edition of the conference yet in terms of participant engagement and feedback.

The International Paralympic Committee (IPC) on Thursday (13 June) announced a call for bids to host VISTA2015, which will be the seventh edition of the IPC’s sports science conference.

Just over one month ago VISTA2013 took place in Bonn, Germany, attracting more than 200 participants from five continents to discuss this year’s theme of equipment and technology in Paralympic sports.

Conference attendees noted how the Paralympic Movement is at a crossroads, seeking a balanced freedom to maximise individual potential with the need for governance and regulation.

Many agreed that within each sport and their respective governing bodies, dialogue must improve on what is allowed and possible.

Several presentations from VISTA2013 are now available online here: http://www.paralympic.org/vista-2013/presentations.

The last three editions of VISTA were all held in Bonn, but the IPC is now opening the expression of interest to any city.

Peter Van de Vliet, IPC Medical and Scientific Director, said: “VISTA2013 was the most successful edition of the conference yet in terms of participant engagement and feedback. We are now hoping to attract a more widespread and diverse audience for the next conference, which will be held just a year prior to the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games.”

VISTA is designed to promote and advance the mission, goals, objectives and reputation of the IPC and provides a platform for sport scientists to meet with experts in the field of sport for athletes with an impairment.
