Sylvia Pille-Steppat has gradually climbed her way to the top in Para rowing, and it might be that the new 2,000m distance suits her best. She just missed out on a podium at the 2018 World Championships in Plovdiv, Bulgaria. But that has not deterred her hopes of a Paralympic debut at Tokyo 2020.

She secured her first World Championship medal at the 2017 edition in Sarasota-Bradenton, USA, with bronze in the PR1 women’s single sculls (PR1Wx) after three attempts. She again reached the podium at the 2018 World Cup in Linz-Ottensheim, Austria.
