He took up the sport at age 10 in Salerno, Italy.
Why this sport?
He was encouraged to try athletics by his parents. "I come from a family where both my parents have studied, practised and trained in the sports world. When I was little the doctors had told me that I would never be able to run. I like challenges, which is why I worked even harder to try to do it. Sport has improved me as a person, as well as an athlete."

In 2020 he graduated with a law degree. The completion of his studies had been delayed by his sporting career. "It was a long journey that I could have finished earlier. My sports career slowed down the study for a couple of years. I realised that I am very interested in sports law, and I wrote a thesis on criminal law in sport.
