When and where did you begin this sport?
He began Para alpine skiing in 2010.
Why this sport?
"The monoski gives me back an enormous freedom. I can move like any other skiers. I can go on any ski slope I want, even deep snow. This feeling cannot be achieved in a wheelchair because it is rather limited."
Club / Team
Schiclub f Behinderte: Salzburg, AUT
Name of coach
Markus Gutenbrunner [national]

Impairment
In June 2007 he crashed during a motocross race in Murau, Austria. He injured his seventh thoracic vertebra, which resulted in paraplegia. "Everything was in slow motion, from the fall to leaving by helicopter. I was fully conscious and immediately realised what happened. I suddenly had no feeling in my legs, but a tremendous tingling. Unfortunately the first operation was not completely successful. They had to recreate vertebrae from the hipbone, but it affected other functions." (oepc.at, 20 Feb 2018; wingsforlife.com, 2013)
Other information
RETIREMENT AND COMEBACK
He retired from competitive Para alpine skiing in 2020 before returning to competition in 2021. (paralympic.org, 17 Nov 2021)

MOTIVATED BY MUSIC
He likes listening to music and playing the guitar. "Music gives me a feeling that I don't feel inside of anything else. It is a great counterbalance to action-packed sport. I'm generally a sensitive person and need music to function in sports. In slalom, for example, I often follow a bass beat." (oepc.at, 03 Feb 2022)

OCCUPATION
He works as a finance officer for the Federal Ministry of Finance in Austria. (bmf.gv.at, 05 Mar 2022)
