Purdy’s fame in America rose after staring in the 2014 series of the hit TV show ‘Dancing with the stars’, where she finished second.

America’s Paralympic snowboard bronze medallist Amy Purdy is set to feature in the sixth annual edition of ESPN The Magazine’s The Body Issue.

In doing so, she follows in the footsteps of Paralympic rower and Nordic skier Oksana Masters, who featured in 2012 and wheelchair tennis star Esther Vergeer in 2010.

The Body Issue, started in 2009, is an annual celebration of the athletic form, which includes many top sports stars posing in nude or semi-nude photographs.

Las Vegas native Purdy achieved bronze at the Sochi 2014 Paralympic Winter Games in the debut of para-snowboard.

She will feature in the magazine alongside fellow sports stars such as five-time Wimbledon champion Venus Williams, 18-time Olympic gold medallist Michael Phelps and boxer Bernard Hopkins.

Speaking to ESPN, Chad Millman, Editor of ESPN The Magazine and ESPN.com, said: "We somehow manage to raise the bar each year.

"This year's collection of exceptional athletes and stunning photography showcases an array of sports and body types. It inhabits our mission to pay tribute to these athletes' bodies and all they are capable of."

Purdy’s fame in America rose after staring in the 2014 series of the hit TV show ‘Dancing with the stars’, where she finished second.

The 34-year-old is also an actress, model and co-founder of Adaptive Action Sports, a non-profit adaptive snowboard and skateboard organisation that arranges sports camps, events and programs for children and young adults living with physical impairments.

The magazine will be available to purchase from 11 July.
