Austrians finish Europa Cup on high note

Salcher finished with 748 points, ahead of Russian 15-year-old Alexey Bugaev, while Rabl led his class with 510 points ahead of the Netherlands’ Kees-Jan van der Klooster.

Austria’s Markus Salcher and Roman Rabl finished atop the IPC Alpine Skiing Europa Cup standings in the men’s standing and sitting categories, respectively, following the Cup’s final event of the season in Tignes, France last week.

Salcher finished with 748 points, ahead of Russian 15-year-old Alexey Bugaev, while Rabl led his class with 510 points ahead of the Netherlands’ Kees-Jan van der Klooster.

In the men’s final downhill runs last week, Salcher won the standing classification race with a top time of 1:02.96, beating the Netherlands’ Bart Verbruggen and France’s Vincent Gauthier-Manuel, who finished in 1:06.06 and 1:06.22, respectively.

The overall Europa Cup men’s visually impaired title went to Spain’s Jon Santacana, who finished with 550 points ahead of Slovakians Miroslav Haraus and Jakub Krako.

In Tignes, France’s Marie Bochet topped her arch rival Andrea Rothfuss of Germany by winning the final women’s downhill standing race in 1:09.85. Rothfuss finished close behind with a time of 1:10.82.

Bochet finished 100 points ahead of Rothfuss in the final Europa Cup standings.

Austria’s Claudia Loesch won the final downhill sitting event in 1:09.47, but it was Germany’s Anna Schaffelhuber who won the Europa Cup title, with Loesch finishing second.

Slovakia’s Henrieta Farkasova won the women’s visually impaired class at the Europa Cup, as Great Britain’s Kelly Gallagher and Jade Etherington took second and third.
