The Canadian women's goalball team won the 2017 IBSA Goalball American Championships

The Canadian women’s goalball team denied hosts Brazil a second straight gold with victory at the International Blind Sports Federation (IBSA) Goalball American Championships on 3 December.

In Sao Paulo, Canada held off Brazil 6-4 to finish the tournament undefeated.

Amy Burk was awarded the top scorer trophy in the women's competition with 27 goals, including five in the gold medal game.

The US women downed Mexico 10-0 for the bronze medal.

Brazil did get to celebrate a victory when the men’s side defeated reigning Paralympic silver medallists the USA 8-3 in the final. Leomon Silva led Brazil with 16 goals total in the Championships, contributing five in the finals.

Canada took bronze in the men's championships thanks to a 6-3 victory over Argentina. Argentina's Hernan Almada came top of the goal-scorers' table in the men's tournament on 26 goals.
