Four Para athletes were among the winners of the Samsung 2016 Hong Kong Sports Stars Awards held 21 March.

Boccia player Yuk Wing Leung and swimmer Wai Lok Tang received the Sports Stars Awards. Leung, who won gold at Rio 2016 in the mixed individual BC4, received the award for the third time (2004 and 2014). Tang captured gold in Rio in the men’s 200m freestyle S14 and took home the award for the first time.

Fellow swimmer Ka Chun Hui and badminton player Chun Yim Wong did not compete in Rio but received the Hong Kong Most Promising Sports Stars Awards for their potential at Tokyo 2020.

The Hong Kong Sports Stars Awards includes six categories: Hong Kong Sports Stars Awards, Hong Kong Junior Sports Stars Awards, Hong Kong Sports Stars Award for Team Only Sport, Hong Kong Sports Stars Awards for Team Event, Hong Kong Most Promising Sports Stars Awards and Hong Kong Sportsmanship Sports Stars Award. The first four categories were opened for voting by public and the sports press.

The prestigious “Best of the Best Sports Stars Award” is presented to the awardee with the highest votes among the eight awardees of the “Hong Kong Sports Stars Awards” starting from 2006. More on the awards can be found online.
