“This is an amazing opportunity to participate in the selection process for the host of the Olympic and Paralympic Games that will succeed the Rio 2016 Games.”

IPC Governing Board member and President of the Brazilian Paralympic Committee Andrew Parsons has been selected to participate in the evaluation committee of the host cities for the 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Parsons will arrive in Tokyo, Japan on Friday (1 March) for the evaluation programme for Tokyo, which will include visits to the sites where the Japanese intend to organise the Games.

He will then take part in evaluation visits to Madrid, Spain and Istanbul, Turkey, which are the two other finallists to host the Games.

Later this spring, the committee members will meet in Lausanne, Switzerland to prepare a report on the candidate cities for members of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) entitled to vote.

“This is an amazing opportunity to participate in the selection process for the host of the Olympic and Paralympic Games that will succeed the Rio 2016 Games,” Parsons said. “I know that I will learn a lot and I hope to contribute to choosing the best host.”

The choice of the host city for the 2020 Games will be announced on 7 September in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
