The Lima 2019 Pan Am and Parapan Am Games Organising Committee has revealed the mascots shortlisted to become the symbol of the Games.

More than 1,000 people from across Peru participated in the mascot design competition, before organisers were able to narrow it down to just three contenders:

1) Milco, designed by Andrea Medrano, is based on a ‘cuchimilco’, which were ceramic sculptures made by the Chancay culture, a pre-Columbian civilization from the region.

2) Wayqi (Alfredo Vitor) is a gecko of Lima, a small lizard which can be found in Peru. It represents the versatile fauna of the region.

3) Amantis (Andy Alegre) was inspired by the Flower of Amancaes, native of Peru, and represents the city’s beautiful flora.

The winner will be decided by popular vote, with the poll now open on the official website.

The Lima 2019 Parapan American Games will take place from 23 August-1 September, with a record 1,850 athletes competing in 17 sports, two more than at Toronto 2015.
