World Para Dance Sport has announced the competition schedule for the 2017 World Championships that will be held 21-22 October in Malle, Belgium.

Nearly 170 athletes from 22 nations are expected to compete over 18 medals events, up four from the 2015 World Championships in Rome, Italy. Malle 2017 will be the second World Championships to feature single and freestyle events, after both disciplines were added in 2014.

Competition will begin Saturday morning (21 October) with women’s single class 1 and class 2 events. The men will then take the floor in their respective single class 1 and 2 events.

Following a technical break, the Opening Ceremony will welcome all the dancers to the floor at the Provincial Training Centre Malle.

Competition then continues Saturday with combi Latin class 1 and 2; and duo standard class 1 and 2.

Day one will conclude with finals in all eight events and the world champions being crowned.

Sunday (22 October) opens with the women’s single freestyle class 1 and 2 events; followed by the men’s single class 1 and 2. It will be the first time both the women and men’s single freestyle class 1 competitions will be contested at a World Championships, as only class 2 events were contested at Rome 2015.

Couples will then light up the dance floor in the afternoon, first with the combi standard class 1 and 2 events; followed by the duo Latin class 2 and 1 events, as well as the combi freestyle class 1 and 2 events.

The Malle 2017 World Para Dance Sport Championships will be live streamed at www.worldparadancesport.com and www.youtube.com/ParalympicSportTV. The complete schedule is available on the Malle 2017 website and is subject to change.
