Marie Bochet: Best and worst memories

France’s Marie Bochet is coming off three world titles and two silver medals from the 2017 World Championships. But it was a “complicated” year for the multi-World and Paralympic champion, who was recovering from a broken shin bone and did not feel 100 per cent.

But as the year went on, she showed gradual improvement and dashed doubts that she would not be able to remain the favourite in the women’s standing ahead of PyeongChang 2018.

The 23-year-old shares her best and worst memories from the 2016-17 season:

1) Winning world gold in the women’s downhill

“It was my first race of the season, the first descent since the previous season, my 12th gold medal in a World Championships. I have beautiful sensations and a good memory from it.”

2) … taking silver in the giant slalom

“A bad memory. I felt like I was giving everything I had and producing a good ski and finally when I crossed the finish line, I saw my time and place were far below my expectations.

“I then analysed my race and saw that I had no juice. I did not have enough training in my legs, and therefore that was what I could give, which was not much.”

3) Discovering the future Paralympic trails at the PyeongChang 2018 Test Event

“I felt the tracks in South Korea were nice; they were technical, pleasant and fun. I like them and I think we will be offering a great show next March.”
