January sees the snow sports season step up as well as major competitions in tennis and triathlon

World Para Alpine Skiing World Cup

Four World Cups will take place in January, with Zagreb, Croatia, staging the first between 8 and 9 January. The circuit will then move to Kranjska Gora, Slovenia, from 11-12 January. Veysonnaz, Switzerland, will stage the season’s fourth between 15 and 18 January, while Tignes, France, will close a busy month for alpine skiers from 21-26 January.

World Para Nordic Skiing World Cup

Oberried, Germany, will host the second World Cup of the season between 20 and 28 January, before Vuokatti, Finland, stages the last from 2-10 February. It will be one of the last opportunities for the world’s best Nordic skiers to assess themselves ahead of PyeongChang 2018.

Sydney Wheelchair Tennis Open

The wheelchair tennis calendar opens with a Super Series event in the Australian city, from 9-13 January, with 2017 Singles Masters title winners Alfie Hewett, Diede de Groot and David Wagner among the top contenders.

Australian Open

The first Grand Slam of the year will be held in Melbourne from 24-27 January, with world No. 1s Gustavo Fernandez and Yui Kamiji seeking to defend their titles from last year. In the quad division, Dylan Alcott aims to claim his fourth consecutive title on home soil.

BNP Paribas World Team Cup Americas Qualification Event

The United States Tennis Association National Campus in Orlando, Florida, will stage this event for the first time from 30 January-3 February, as the Regional Qualifications for the wheelchair tennis team event kick off.

OTU Para Triathlon Oceania Championships

The regional competition will be held in St. Kilda, Australia, on 14 January.

US Open Para Taekwondo

Las Vegas, USA, will stage the year’s first G1 event on 29 January.
