Ukrainian world champion Oleksandra Kononova and Russian Paralympic champion Anna Milenina claimed joint first place in the women's standing cross-country sprint in Finsterau, Germany.

After reviewing the finish, the jury decided that nothing could separate the pair and they awarded them joint first place.

Ukraine’s sprint cross-country skiing world champion Oleksandra Kononova celebrated her 25th birthday in style on Saturday (27 February), forcing Russian Paralympic gold medallist Anna Milenina to a photo finish at the IPC Biathlon and Cross-Country Skiing World Cup in Finsterau, Germany.

After reviewing the finish, the jury decided that nothing could separate the pair and they awarded them joint first place.

Ukraine’s Liudymla Liashenko secured third.

The men’s standing featured a win for Russia’s world champion Vladislav Lekomstev, his first of the competition and second of the season.

Teammate Rushan Minnegulov was second, followed by Ukraine’s Grygorii Vovychynskyi.

The USA’s Sochi 2014 Paralympic Games bronze medallist Oksana Masters doubled her World Cup sprint wins for 2015-16 in the women’s sitting.

With the victory, Masters adds to her place at the top of the overall standings with one World Cup to go.

Russia’s Marta Iovleva led home favourite Andrea Eskau onto the podium in second and third respectively.

In the men’s sitting Russia’s Ivan Golubkov continued his 100 per cent win record for the week, having also sealed first in the long distance classic on Thursday (25 February). The 20-year-old triumphed over Ukraine’s world title holder Maksim Yarovyi.

Andrew Soule secured the USA’s second podium of the day in third.

Russia’s world and Paralympic champion Mikhalina Lysova stepped onto the top step of the podium for the second time in Finsterau with guide Alexey Ivanov.

The men’s visually impaired was a Russian one, two, three headed by Stanislav Chokhlaev, who was guided by Oleg Kolodiichuk.

Vladimir Udaltcov, with guide Ruslan Bogachev, and Oleg Ponomarenko, guided by Andre Romanov, were second and third respectively.

The final competitions in Finsterau take place on Sunday (28 February) with the middle distance biathlon.

The last IPC Biathlon and Cross-Country World Cup of the season is scheduled for Vuokatti, Finland, between 5-10 March.
