The Finnish Sports Association of Persons with Disabilities have launched a series of videos aimed at raising awareness of goalball ahead of the International Blind Sports Federation (IBSA) 2017 Goalball European Championships.

The competition is set to take place at the Pajulahti Sports Institute in Lahti, Finland, from 18-22 September.

In the first video, which can be watched online, Finnish male goalball player and London 2012 gold medallist Erkki Miinala showcases the action-packed world of goalball.

Another four videos will be published before the start of the European Championships, whilst the last will be released once the event is over.

Apart from hosts Finland, Belgium, Great Britain, Ukraine, Sweden, Czech Republic, Germany, Slovenia, Lithuania and Turkey will compete in the men’s event.

Ukraine, Great Britain, Greece, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Israel, Russia* and Turkey will face-off in the women’s side.

*Editor’s note: The International Paralympic Committee suspended the Russian Paralympic Committee on 7 August for its inability to fulfil its IPC membership responsibilities and obligations, in particular its obligation to comply with the IPC Anti-Doping Code and the World Anti-Doping Code (to which it is also a signatory).
