02 Sep 2011

Charity & Sport, a Dutch based organization and funding partner of the IPC, is staging a spectacular fundraising dinner on behalf of the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) this evening (2 September) on board one of the Royal Dutch Navy’s vessels.

The event titled the ‘IPC Captain’s Dinner’ will take place on board HR MS Rotterdam, a 12,750 tonnes amphibious transport ship which usually houses over 120 members of the Royal Dutch Navy.

This is the first time that the Royal Dutch Navy has made one of its ships available for an event of this type which forms part of the World Harbour Days programme which is taking place in the port of Rotterdam, the Netherlands.

Around 300 people are expected to attend the event including IPC President Sir Philip Craven and Rita van Driel, IPC Governing Board member.

Founded in 1996 Charity & Sport aims to bring together the worlds of sport and charity. In 2008 Charity & Sport hosted an IPC Gala Dinner in Rotterdam, the Netherlands and raised €151,000.

Proceeds from this year’s event will go towards the IPC’s Youth Camps which aim to encourage and empower youngsters with a disability in African and Latin American countries to participate in Paralympic Sport.
