Gordon Reid

Reid enjoyed a memorable 2016, winning two Grand Slam singles titles, claiming Rio 2016 singles gold and finishing off the year as world No.1

He started off 2016 winning the Australian Open with a straight sets win over Belgium’s Joachim Gerard. He also was runner-up in the doubles.

In June he made the final at Roland Garros in Paris losing in straight sets to Argentina’s Gustavo Fernandez.

At Wimbledon he won both the singles and doubles titles. He won the singles with a straight sets win over Sweden’s Stefan Olsson and partnered with compatriot Alfie Hewett to win the doubles.

At Rio 2016, he beat Fernandez and France’s Stephane Houdet on his way to the final where he met Hewett. Reid won in straight sets to win gold at his third Paralympics.

He then teamed up with Hewett to win silver in the doubles, losing out to the French pair of Houdet and Nicolas Peifer.

At the end of season NEC Masters he lost in the final to Gerard.

Reid began playing wheelchair tennis in 2005 at age 13 and has also represented Scotland’s under 25’s at wheelchair basketball.
