Impairment
She was born with a range of conditions including spina bifida, hydrocephalus [fluid on the brain], Gibbus [wedged vertebrae], contracted legs, underdeveloped feet, and is paralysed from the waist down. When she was born, doctors said her impairments were some of the most severe they had seen, and they did not expect her to survive an eight-hour long surgery soon after birth. Her father built her first wheelchair himself, because the family's health insurance would not cover one as they did not believe she would ever be able to use it.
