Impairment
At age 14 she misjudged a back flip while sword dancing, resulting in her landing on her neck and breaking her collarbone. Although tests showed no damage to her spine she began to have difficulty walking. She was eventually diagnosed with chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy, a condition in the peripheral nerves that leads to a gradual loss of sensory and reflex functions. Doctors were unaware if her fall led to the condition or if it was just a coincidence. (dailyillini.com, 22 Sep 2015; bostonglobe.com, 21 May 2015; myfoxboston.com, 14 May 2015)
